In order to get into the mindset of a young girl or boy you need to speak to them! You can read as many articles as you want, but kids from the ages of 10–17 are constantly evolving depending on their surroundings and what they have access to. I’m sure they are even more experienced now-a-days than I was at that age. Everybody grows up different of course, I was pretty sheltered as it took a while for my mom to give me the “talk” because I wasn’t ready (or maybe she wasn’t). I have surrounded myself with kids who grew up way more open than I did, have way less rules, more life experience and it surprises me even having a simple mature conversation with a young 13 year old girl. The things they know and talk about that I didn’t even somewhat understand at that age! I think having these interviews will really give me a deep perspective that can help my research for this capstone.

I also would like to get information from experts as well, such as my gynecologist or Dr. Dori Tunstall to see their opinions on how to approach the younger crowd on such a taboo topic. Receiving information from experts and authoritative figures can give me some background on the best way to educate and inform in an interesting yet effective way.

Reaching out to kids that are at the age where they absorb everything and are influenced so easy is an exciting yet scary task because you want to make sure it’s truly helping and not hurting them. I look forward to the research and interviews! The many different perspectives on such a unqiue topic is going to be truly interesting and i’m sure also entertaining!
